DEREK J. HATLEY is President of System Strategies,
an international consulting and training firm based
in Jenison, Michigan. He formerly was a Staff Engineer
at Smiths Industries, Avionic Systems Division, where
he was responsible for systems and software development
techniques.
He developed the requirements model, managed its first
major application, developed an instructional workshop
to be given internally and to customers and suppliers,
and has presented technical papers at international
professional conferences. He has a Master's Degree in
Electrical Engineering from the Rochester Institute
of Technology. His thirty years of varied engineering
experience have included numerous patents, and he has
served on several national and international standards
committees.
An avid runner, ardent music lover, and enthusiastic
bridge player, he lives in Wyoming, Michigan, with his
wife and their teenage son—the youngest of three
sons—and with assorted domestic pets.
